Delhi Chokes on Very Poor Air Quality Ahead of Diwali Festival
Mint · environment
Delhi's air quality has deteriorated to 'very poor' levels, reaching an Air Quality Index of 379, just a week before the Diwali festival. This marks a significant reversal from October, which was the cleanest in eight years due to heavy rains. Winter conditions, including falling temperatures and weak winds, trap pollutants from vehicles, industry, and farm fires. Despite new restrictions implemented in November, experts believe implementation is lacking and the problem is treated as episodic rather than year-round.
