Times of India · interesting
A Ramleela production at Panjab University in Chandigarh continues to use Urdu dialogues, preserving a theatrical tradition dating back to pre-Partition Lahore. Rajan Sharma, who has played Lord Ram for 38 years, inherited the handwritten Urdu scripts from his father, who played the role for three decades. While Hindi translations are used for performers to learn lines, the original Urdu scripts maintain the language's cadence.
