Punjab Chemists Halt Habit-Forming Drug Sales Amid Harassment Allegations

Times of India · health

The Punjab Chemists Association has directed its nearly 27,000 members to stop selling habit-forming prescription drugs, including Pregabalin, due to alleged harassment by authorities. Retailers are instructed to return current stocks to wholesalers by month-end. This action follows a government crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical sales after a pharmacy owner allegedly killed an anti-drug activist. Chemists claim legitimate businesses are being targeted for minor inventory discrepancies, turning the anti-drug campaign into a "war on chemists." The association suggests controlled medications be distributed through civil hospitals and Jan Aushadhi outlets instead.
