Arunachal Dam Protests Turn Violent, Damaging NHPC Equipment

Anti-dam protests in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri district escalated into violence on Monday, with mobs damaging vehicles and NHPC equipment. Two security personnel were injured during a 12-hour bandh against the proposed Menga dam. This unrest follows similar incidents in the Siang basin over the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. Protesters fear the projects will threaten their land and livelihoods. Authorities are examining demands for the release of detained activists and the withdrawal of central forces, stating peace is necessary for dialogue.

अरुणाचल प्रदेश के अपर सुबनसिरी जिले में सोमवार को बांध विरोधी प्रदर्शन हिंसक हो गया, जिसमें भीड़ ने वाहनों और एनएचपीसी के उपकरणों को नुकसान पहुंचाया। प्रस्तावित मिंगा बांध के खिलाफ 12 घंटे के बंद के दौरान दो सुरक्षाकर्मी घायल हो गए। यह अशांति सियांग बेसिन में सियांग अपर मल्टीपर्पस प्रोजेक्ट को लेकर हुई इसी तरह की घटनाओं के बाद हुई है। प्रदर्शनकारियों को डर है कि ये परियोजनाएं उनकी जमीन और आजीविका को खतरे में डाल देंगी। अधिकारी हिरासत में लिए गए कार्यकर्ताओं की रिहाई और केंद्रीय बलों की वापसी की मांगों की जांच कर रहे हैं, और कह रहे हैं कि बातचीत के लिए शांति आवश्यक है।
