The Hindu · india

Traders in Dharwad have urged authorities to curb unregulated street vending and remove encroachments, stating they negatively impact local businesses and pedestrian movement. Association representative Deepak Rege highlighted increased vending near Subhash Road and the Lakshmi Narayan temple, affecting shopkeepers who pay rent and taxes. Encroachments also pose safety risks to pedestrians, schoolchildren, and the elderly. The traders requested food safety checks for street vendors and designated vending zones, emphasizing that vendors should not inconvenience established businesses or the public. They seek co-operation from elected representatives for a permanent solution.
