Around 15,000 years ago, North America was home to enormous mammals like mammoths, mastodons, and giant ground sloths, alongside formidable predators such as saber-toothed cats and dire wolves. These giants shaped the continent's landscape until their near-total extinction by about 11,700 years ago. The reasons for this mass disappearance remain debated, with theories pointing to rapid climate shifts at the end of the Ice Age and the increasing presence of humans.
