The US has temporarily waived additional tariffs on Russian oil buyers, providing India with much-needed breathing room. However, the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) warns that the underlying legislation remains active, allowing the US to reinstate duties during future trade talks. GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava advised India to secure its energy needs commercially and prepare for potential renewed US pressure. The waiver, citing US national interests, has no fixed expiry date and can be withdrawn by the administration.
