An expert committee report tabled in the Kerala assembly has recommended that the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) cease fresh market borrowings. The committee, chaired by Sudha Pillai, suggested the state government take over KIIFB's outstanding debt and fund unfinished projects through the budget. The report highlighted that KIIFB operated independently, bypassing government controls and imposing a significant financial burden, with estimated additional costs of Rs 13,103 crore. It also flagged irregularities in consultancy payments, land acquisition, and publicity expenditure, recommending a comprehensive audit.
