Times of India · politics

Former Indian hockey captain Pargat Singh has been appointed to lead the Punjab Congress at a critical juncture for the party. His career, both in sports and politics, is marked by stepping into crucial roles during high-stakes situations. Singh's political journey began unexpectedly in 2012 when he was asked to contest from Jalandhar Cantonment, a seat he retained even after the 2022 election swept AAP to power. He now faces the challenge of navigating factionalism within the Congress while competing against well-resourced rivals.
