The death toll from powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 4,829, with over 20,000 people displaced. The twin quakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, hit within a minute of each other. They devastated the coastal state of La Guaira, located north of the capital city, Caracas.
