The Indian government is establishing the country's first mineral exchange to ensure transparent trading of bulk industrial commodities. The mines ministry has begun selecting an entity to operate the platform, which aims to provide a fair and efficient price discovery mechanism. Initially, the exchange will trade five minerals: iron ore, chromite, bauxite, limestone, and manganese. These are crucial for industries like steel, aluminium, and cement. The exchange is expected to become functional by the next financial year, improving market access and reducing disputes.
