Indian Bonds Tumble As Oil Prices Surge, RBI Rate Hike Fears Grow

Economic Times Markets · stocks

Indian government bonds fell for a third consecutive session on Thursday, pushing the benchmark yield above 7.45%. This decline is driven by surging oil prices, which reached fresh highs, and concerns over further interest rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of India. The central bank had previously raised the repo rate and indicated a "calibrated tightening" stance. With India importing nearly 90% of its oil, elevated prices risk fueling inflation and impacting the rupee and government finances.
