Karnataka Grants Tulu Official Status, Renames District

Karnataka has officially recognized Tulu as the state's second additional administrative language, alongside Kannada, in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. This decision fulfills a long-standing demand from Tulu-speaking communities. The state cabinet also approved the renaming of Dakshina Kannada district to Mangaluru district, initiating a public consultation process. Additionally, development projects worth Rs 32,611 crore were sanctioned for the coastal region.

कर्नाटक सरकार ने आधिकारिक तौर पर तुलु भाषा को राज्य की दूसरी अतिरिक्त प्रशासनिक भाषा का दर्जा दे दिया है। यह कन्नड़ के साथ दक्षिण कन्नड़ और उडुपी जिलों में लागू होगी। इससे तुलुभाषी समुदायों की पुरानी मांग पूरी हो गई है। राज्य कैबिनेट ने दक्षिण कन्नड़ जिले का नाम बदलकर मंगलुरु जिला करने को भी मंजूरी दी है, जिस पर अब जनता से राय ली जाएगी।
