BJP Faces Setback in UP MLC Polls, Samajwadi Party Gains Ground

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has experienced a setback in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections, particularly in its strongholds of Varanasi and Lucknow. While the BJP secured six seats overall, the Samajwadi Party (SP) gained momentum, winning five seats. The SP wrested the Lucknow graduate seat and the Agra teachers’ seat from the BJP. The BJP's performance was a concern, especially after its reduced tally in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as it aimed to regain ground before the 2027 assembly polls.

भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) को उत्तर प्रदेश विधान परिषद चुनावों में, खासकर वाराणसी और लखनऊ के अपने गढ़ों में, एक झटके का सामना करना पड़ा है। जहाँ भाजपा ने कुल छह सीटें जीतीं, वहीं समाजवादी पार्टी (सपा) ने गति पकड़ी और पाँच सीटें जीतीं। सपा ने लखनऊ स्नातक सीट और आगरा शिक्षक सीट भाजपा से छीन ली। भाजपा का प्रदर्शन चिंता का विषय था, खासकर 2024 के लोकसभा चुनावों में उसकी कम हुई संख्या के बाद, क्योंकि उसका लक्ष्य 2027 के विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले जमीन वापस हासिल करना था।
