Poor Diet Amplifies Genetic High Cholesterol Risk in Indians, Study Finds

Times of India · health

A city-based study of 1,020 adults in India reveals that a poor diet significantly amplifies the genetic risk of high cholesterol. Individuals with a higher genetic predisposition showed elevated total cholesterol and LDL levels only when their dietary habits were of low quality. Conversely, those with better-quality diets did not exhibit this statistically significant difference, regardless of their genetic risk. Researchers suggest that dietary choices can influence how inherited susceptibilities manifest, offering a controllable factor for managing metabolic health despite genetic predispositions.
