The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutions across India to establish patient safety committees or cells. These bodies will be tasked with strengthening safety practices and minimizing preventable harm within healthcare settings. Institutions must also designate specific nodal officers for patient safety. The NMC requires colleges to submit the composition and details of these committees, along with nodal officer particulars, to the National Patient Safety Secretariat. The committees will be chaired by institutional heads and include representation from various medical specialties.
