The Tamil Nadu government has established an additional sessions court in Chennai dedicated to the exclusive trial of cases investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This includes sensitive matters such as counter-terrorism, espionage, and aviation security. The decision follows a directive from the Madras High Court, which was acting on Supreme Court recommendations to improve the speed of NIA trials. The court's order came during the bail hearing for an accused in the 2022 Coimbatore car blast case.
