Uttarakhand Bans Gutkha, Pan Masala For One Year

The Uttarakhand government has imposed a one-year ban on the manufacturing, storage, distribution, and sale of gutkha, pan masala, and other food items containing tobacco or nicotine. This decision, aimed at protecting public health, will be effective. The order was issued by the Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Uttarakhand, invoking powers under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Despite previous bans in 2013, 2015, and 2019, the use of tobacco and nicotine in these products continued, prompting this stringent measure.

उत्तराखंड सरकार ने गुटखा, पान मसाला और तंबाकू या निकोटीन युक्त अन्य खाद्य पदार्थों के निर्माण, भंडारण, वितरण और बिक्री पर एक साल का प्रतिबंध लगा दिया है। जनता के स्वास्थ्य की सुरक्षा के उद्देश्य से लिया गया यह फैसला तुरंत प्रभावी होगा। यह आदेश खाद्य सुरक्षा एवं औषधि प्रशासन, उत्तराखंड के आयुक्त ने खाद्य सुरक्षा एवं मानक अधिनियम, 2006 के तहत अपनी शक्तियों का प्रयोग करते हुए जारी किया है। साल 2013, 2015 और 2019 में पहले भी प्रतिबंध लगाए जाने के बावजूद इन उत्पादों में तंबाकू और निकोटीन का इस्तेमाल जारी रहा, जिसके कारण यह कड़ा कदम उठाया गया है।
