Two New Marine Spider Species Discovered In Salish Sea

Scientists have discovered two new species of marine spiders in the Salish Sea near Canada. The findings occurred between September 2023 and August 2024 during scuba diving at a depth of approximately 59 feet. One species, Callipallene pilosuspedes, features red eyes, hair-like leg bristles, and three lip-like structures. The second species, Tanystylum kiixin, has black eyes and often carries small parasites on its body. This discovery provides new insights into the diverse marine life inhabiting the ocean depths.
