150-Million-Year-Old Bird Fossil With Small Wings Found
Times of India · science
A nearly complete fossil discovered in southeastern China reveals a new bird species, Yuezhuornis yangyuanensis, that lived approximately 150 million years ago. This crow-sized creature possessed unusually small wings relative to its body size, sharp teeth, and a powerful claw, suggesting it was adapted for terrestrial hunting rather than extensive flight. The find challenges the long-held notion that the earliest birds were primarily built for aerial locomotion.
