The Russia-Ukraine conflict has extended into space, with a Russian military satellite, Cosmos-2612, repeatedly altering its orbit to approach a US-registered commercial radar satellite, ICEYE-X36. The ICEYE-X36 satellite provides Ukraine with radar data. The two satellites came within a few kilometers of each other at an altitude of approximately 550 kilometers, a proximity considered highly dangerous in space. Experts believe this is a deliberate, controlled maneuver for close inspection, marking the first time two active satellites have met so closely without mutual consent.
