Former SC Judge Flags Poll Panel Malfunctioning, Democracy in Peril

Former Supreme Court judge Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman has raised concerns about the "malfunctioning" of the Election Commission, stating that citizens' right to vote is in peril due to illegal removal from voter lists. He highlighted that approximately 93% of adjudicated cases of deleted voters in West Bengal were decided in their favour, indicating illegal disenfranchisement. Justice Nariman also criticized the appointment process of election commissioners, which is solely in the Centre's hands, and expressed hope the Supreme Court will rectify these systemic issues.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट के पूर्व जज जस्टिस रोहिंटन फली नरीमन ने चुनाव आयोग के "खराब" होने पर चिंता जताई है, उन्होंने कहा कि मतदाताओं की सूची से अवैध रूप से नाम हटाने के कारण नागरिकों के वोट देने का अधिकार खतरे में है। उन्होंने बताया कि पश्चिम बंगाल में हटाए गए मतदाताओं के लगभग 93% मामलों में उनके पक्ष में फैसला सुनाया गया, जो अवैध रूप से मताधिकार छीनने का संकेत देता है। जस्टिस नरीमन ने चुनाव आयुक्तों की नियुक्ति की प्रक्रिया की भी आलोचना की, जो पूरी तरह से केंद्र के हाथों में है, और उम्मीद जताई कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट इन प्रणालीगत मुद्दों को ठीक करेगा।
