Four Lion Cubs Die Shortly After Birth

Four lion cubs, two male and two female, born to a three-year-old lioness named Sara at Shivamogga Zoo, have died within a day of their birth. Sara, brought from Indore in September 2025, was paired with a male lion named Shiva. Zoo officials were unaware of the pregnancy due to unusual mating behaviour. Despite attempts to save them, including incubator care, the cubs succumbed, with the lack of maternal colostrum identified as a critical factor. A post-mortem was conducted on one cub for further study.

शिवमोग्गा चिड़ियाघर में तीन साल की शेरनी सारा को दो नर और दो मादा शावकों का जन्म हुआ, लेकिन जन्म के एक दिन के भीतर ही चारों की मौत हो गई। सारा को सितंबर 2025 में इंदौर से लाया गया था और उसे शिव नाम के नर शेर के साथ जोड़ा गया था। असामान्य मिलन व्यवहार के कारण चिड़ियाघर के अधिकारियों को गर्भावस्था के बारे में पता नहीं चला था। उन्हें बचाने के सभी प्रयास, जिसमें इनक्यूबेटर की देखभाल भी शामिल थी, विफल रहे और शावकों की मौत हो गई, जिसमें माँ के कोलोस्ट्रम की कमी को एक महत्वपूर्ण कारण बताया गया। आगे के अध्ययन के लिए एक शावक का पोस्टमार्टम किया गया।
