Pāran and Udyapan: Understanding the Difference in Hindu Fasting Rituals
TV9 Hindi · spirituality
In Hinduism, both fasting (vrat) and its conclusion are significant. Many confuse Pāran, the ritual to break a single day's fast, with Udyapan, a special ceremony performed after completing a set number or duration of fasts. Pāran typically occurs the day after a fast, involving simple worship and a meal. Udyapan, however, is a more elaborate ritual performed once a series of fasts is complete, often including हवन (fire ritual), prayers, and feeding Brahmins.
