ओडिशा में औद्योगिक कचरे से कीमती दुर्लभ पृथ्वी तत्व निकालने के लिए पायलट प्लांट लगाए जा रहे हैं। भारत की सबसे बड़ी सरकारी एल्युमीनियम कंपनी NALCO इन पहलों का समर्थन कर रही है। इन प्रोजेक्ट्स में रिसर्च और डेवलपमेंट के लिए विकसित पेटेंटेड प्रक्रियाओं का इस्तेमाल होगा। इसका मकसद कचरे से महत्वपूर्ण संसाधन वापस पाना है, जिससे आयात पर निर्भरता कम हो और क्षेत्र में टिकाऊ औद्योगिक प्रथाओं को बढ़ावा मिले।
