Vedanta Seeks Niyamgiri Mining Revival in Odisha

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to discuss reopening the Niyamgiri bauxite reserves. Agarwal stated that the tribal population should be provided employment and integrated into the development process. The Niyamgiri Hills are estimated to hold between 72 million and 88 million tonnes of bauxite. Vedanta plans to invest ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha for aluminium smelters, refineries, and power plants, aiming to boost domestic bauxite supply for its expanding operations.

वेदांता ग्रुप के चेयरमैन अनिल अग्रवाल ने ओडिशा के मुख्यमंत्री मोहन चरण मांझी से नियमगिरी बॉक्साइट भंडार को फिर से खोलने पर चर्चा की। अग्रवाल ने कहा कि आदिवासी आबादी को रोज़गार दिया जाना चाहिए और विकास प्रक्रिया में शामिल किया जाना चाहिए। नियमगिरी पहाड़ियों में अनुमानित 72 मिलियन से 88 मिलियन टन बॉक्साइट होने का अनुमान है। वेदांता ओडिशा में एल्युमीनियम स्मेल्टर, रिफाइनरी और बिजली संयंत्रों के लिए ₹1 लाख करोड़ का निवेश करने की योजना बना रहा है, जिसका लक्ष्य अपने विस्तारवादी संचालन के लिए घरेलू बॉक्साइट आपूर्ति को बढ़ावा देना है।
