Keralam Govt To Take Time-Bound Steps To Prevent Vembanad Lake Flooding

Keralam Chief Minister V D Satheesan assured the state assembly that the government will implement time-bound measures to protect the Vembanad lake region from flooding. A comprehensive project will be formulated to address the issue, which affects Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and parts of Ernakulam districts. The overflow is caused by the lake's inability to hold water from five rivers and poor drainage into the sea. The government also plans to undertake sand mining from rivers and lakes to improve water flow, with sand removal expected by December or January 2027.

केरल के मुख्यमंत्री वी डी सतीसन ने राज्य विधानसभा को आश्वासन दिया कि सरकार वेम्बनाड झील क्षेत्र को बाढ़ से बचाने के लिए समयबद्ध उपाय लागू करेगी। इस मुद्दे को हल करने के लिए एक व्यापक परियोजना तैयार की जाएगी, जो कोट्टायम, पथनमथिट्टा, अलाप्पुझा और एर्नाकुलम जिलों के हिस्सों को प्रभावित करती है। झील में पांच नदियों के पानी को धारण करने में असमर्थता और समुद्र में खराब जल निकासी के कारण ओवरफ्लो होता है। सरकार नदियों और झीलों से रेत खनन करने की भी योजना बना रही है ताकि जल प्रवाह में सुधार हो सके, जिसमें दिसंबर या जनवरी 2027 तक रेत हटाने की उम्मीद है।
