Farmers Reject Wheat MSP Hike, Demand C2+50% Formula

Farmer organisations have expressed dissatisfaction with the Centre's decision to increase the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per quintal for the 2027-28 marketing season. They argue this increase is inadequate and are reiterating their demand for MSP to be fixed at 50% above the comprehensive cost of production, using the C2+50% formula. Farmer groups stated the Centre's current calculation method excludes crucial costs like capital invested in land. They plan to continue advocating for the MSP formula recommended by the MS Swaminathan Commission.
