India's POSH Compliance Gap: Awareness Beyond Policies Needed

Hindustan Times · india

New research reveals a significant gap in India's workplace sexual harassment awareness, despite existing policies and training. A study of 103 complaints and 6,353 participants found 24.86% of employees unaware of their organization's POSH policy. Furthermore, 38.45% did not recognize abusive language as sexual harassment, indicating a disconnect between legal compliance and practical understanding. This lack of awareness hinders reporting and prevention efforts, as employees may not recognize misconduct or know where to seek help. Confidentiality is also a concern, with many employees and managers willing to discuss ongoing complaints.
