India Plans Trial of Plastic ₹10 and ₹20 Notes by April 2027
TV9 Hindi · business
The Reserve Bank of India is reportedly planning to begin trials for plastic ₹10 and ₹20 currency notes by April 2027. A key aspect of this initiative is maintaining the existing size of these notes, which would prevent banks from incurring additional costs to modify ATM machines. This move aims to reduce expenses for banks, as modifying ATMs for new note sizes previously cost around ₹100 crore nationwide. The plastic notes are expected to last two to four times longer than paper currency.
