Tamil Nadu Cancels Onion Order With NAFED Over Substandard Quality
Times of India · india
The Tamil Nadu government has cancelled an order for 400 metric tonnes of onions placed with NAFED due to quality concerns. The consignment, intended for public distribution, was found to have a significant percentage of rotten, sprouted, or fungus-affected onions. Additionally, over half of the onions were smaller than the specified minimum diameter. A cooperative department official was reportedly denied a quality check prior to dispatch. The government aims to control onion prices and ensure consumers receive only quality produce.
