Montenegro on Track for EU Membership by 2028, Says European Commission

The European Commission has stated that Montenegro is on track to become the European Union's 28th member state by 2028. Accession negotiations could conclude by the end of this year, with a potential treaty signing in June 2027. This progress is attributed to Montenegro's sustained reform efforts. While Montenegro is the frontrunner among nine candidate countries, it must still implement reforms in fundamental rights and financial services. The EU aims to build a more complete and stronger Union through enlargement.
