Karnataka Farmers Halt Sugar Sales Over MSP Demands

The Hindu · india

Farmers in Belagavi district have stopped the sale and transportation of sugar from local factories, demanding the Union government finalise the Minimum Selling Price (MSP) for sugar. Protesters locked warehouses and blocked sugar-laden trucks, vowing not to allow any sales until the Centre fixes the MSP. They seek an increase in the MSP for sugar to ₹60 per tonne, arguing it would lead to higher sugarcane prices. The protest was temporarily paused after the Chief Minister sought assurances from factories regarding adherence to the future MSP.
