Solapur district police have detained 51 sand smugglers and habitual offenders under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act over the past two years. This crackdown targets illegal sand extraction and sale, particularly in areas without auctions, and aims to prevent proceeds from funding criminal activities. The move follows incidents where smugglers rammed vehicles into officials and attacked police. Superintendent Atul Kulkarni stated that detailed records of offenders are maintained, with proposals for action against 11 more individuals sent to the district collector.
