NHAI Flags Improper Crash Barriers, Tightens Highway Safety

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified the use of improper crash barriers on its highway projects that do not meet safety specifications. A policy circular now mandates adherence to the Manual of Specifications and Standards and IRC:119-2015 for all future projects and those where barriers are yet to be installed. Specific requirements for three-beam and W-beam barriers include 3mm-thick rails and posts, with detailed specifications for dimensions and materials like E350-grade steel. These measures aim to enhance overall highway safety across the country.
