Maharashtra CEO's Proposal Accepted to Allow Additional Documents for Electoral Roll Notices

Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam's proposal to accept alternative documents for electoral roll discrepancies has been approved by the Election Commission of India (ECI). This allows electors receiving notices for unmapped records to submit any valid supporting document, not just the original 13 prescribed ones. The BLO mobile application now includes an option for "other/other equivalent document." This change aims to assist vulnerable groups like PVTGs and homeless individuals who may lack standard documentation. Over 1.22 crore electors in Maharashtra received such notices.

महाराष्ट्र के मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी एस चोकलिंगम के प्रस्ताव को निर्वाचन आयोग (ECI) ने मंजूरी दे दी है। यह प्रस्ताव वोटर लिस्ट में गड़बड़ी के लिए वैकल्पिक दस्तावेज़ स्वीकार करने से जुड़ा है। अब जिन मतदाताओं को अनमैप्ड रिकॉर्ड के लिए नोटिस मिला है, वे मूल 13 बताए गए दस्तावेज़ों के अलावा कोई भी मान्य सहायक दस्तावेज़ जमा कर सकते हैं। BLO मोबाइल ऐप में अब "अन्य/अन्य समकक्ष दस्तावेज़" का विकल्प भी जोड़ा गया है। इस बदलाव का मकसद PVTGs और बेघर लोगों जैसे कमजोर समूहों की मदद करना है, जिनके पास अक्सर मानक दस्तावेज़ नहीं होते। महाराष्ट्र में 1.22 करोड़ से ज़्यादा मतदाताओं को ऐसे नोटिस मिले थे।
