Bihar to Introduce Regional Languages For Classes 1 & 2 From Next Session

Hindustan Times · education

Bihar's government will introduce one regional language, such as Maithili or Bhojpuri, for students in classes 1 and 2 across all state-run schools starting next academic session. This initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy, aims to promote mother-tongue education at the primary level. Textbooks in six regional languages are being developed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training. The policy emphasizes regional languages for better conceptual understanding and preserving linguistic diversity, with plans to extend this to classes 3-5 later.
