Gurgaon Water Crisis: HC Warns of Disaster if Groundwater Loss Continues

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has warned of disastrous consequences for future generations if groundwater depletion in Gurgaon continues unchecked. Observing that the present generation is a trustee for future ones, the court noted that annual groundwater extraction is twice the available resource. Water levels in Gurgaon have plunged nearly 40 metres in several areas, a situation described as grim and requiring immediate attention.

पंजाब और हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट ने चेतावनी दी है कि अगर गुरुग्राम में भूजल की कमी अनियंत्रित रूप से जारी रही तो आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए विनाशकारी परिणाम होंगे। यह देखते हुए कि वर्तमान पीढ़ी भविष्य की पीढ़ियों के लिए एक ट्रस्टी है, अदालत ने कहा कि वार्षिक भूजल निकासी उपलब्ध संसाधन से दोगुनी है। गुरुग्राम में कई इलाकों में पानी का स्तर लगभग 40 मीटर तक गिर गया है, जिसे एक गंभीर स्थिति बताया गया है और तत्काल ध्यान देने की आवश्यकता है।
