India Proposes Stricter Rules on Prescription-Only Drug Ads
Hindustan Times · health
India's health ministry is proposing stricter regulations on advertisements for prescription-only medicines by pharmacies and wholesalers. An amendment to the Drugs Rules, 1945, aims to extend existing government sanction requirements for advertising certain drugs to retailers and distributors. This move seeks to enhance regulatory oversight, curb unauthorized promotion of prescription drugs, and reduce risks from self-medication. The proposal follows recommendations from the Drugs Technical Advisory Board and aims to prevent the misuse of drugs like antibiotics, which contributes to antimicrobial resistance.
