The Supreme Court has strongly criticised a Patna High Court judgment that stated removing a woman's salwar and pressing her chest did not constitute an attempt to rape. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant called the High Court's reasoning "shocking" and issued notice to the acquitted accused. The case involved an incident where a studio owner allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने पटना हाईकोर्ट के उस फैसले की कड़ी आलोचना की है जिसमें कहा गया था कि एक महिला की सलवार उतारना और उसके सीने को दबाना दुष्कर्म के प्रयास के दायरे में नहीं आता। भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश सूर्यकांत की अगुवाई वाली एक पीठ ने हाईकोर्ट की दलीलों को "चौंकाने वाला" बताया और बरी किए गए आरोपी को नोटिस जारी किया। इस मामले में एक स्टूडियो मालिक पर एक महिला से कथित तौर पर यौन उत्पीड़न करने का आरोप था।
