Italy Data Centre Connection Requests Exceed 100 GW

Italy's grid operator Terna has received connection requests for nearly 600 data centre projects, totalling over 100 gigawatts (GW). CEO Pasqualino Monti stated these requests significantly exceed the actual capacity for project implementation, highlighting the challenge of supporting the sector's growth efficiently and gradually. This requested capacity has increased substantially from 42 GW in May 2025. Italy currently hosts around 205 data centres, primarily concentrated in the Lombardy region, with the Milan area dominating power capacity and announced investments across Europe.
