The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified that banks must maintain a 20% foreign exchange risk reserve (FERR) within their cash reserve ratio (CRR) accounts. This reserve is required over and above the mandatory CRR balance and must be recorded for audit verification. The FERR applies to eligible foreign exchange derivative contracts exceeding $2 million, used for hedging current account transactions or the bank's own assets and liabilities.
