This marks the first royal visit to the city since 2007, a year that saw a diplomatic crisis with neighbouring Morocco. Morocco claims sovereignty over Ceuta and another Spanish territory, Melilla. The visit occurred following a significant migrant influx from Morocco in July, with crowds waving Spanish flags welcoming the royal couple.
