Egyptian Journalists To Protest Over Colleagues' Detention Amid Torture Claims

Egyptian journalists are planning a protest in Cairo this weekend after six colleagues from the Matsadaash platform were charged with terrorism offences. The journalists were arrested last week and accused of working for the Muslim Brotherhood. All six have alleged to their lawyers that they were tortured and forced to film false confessions, claims which police deny. The public prosecution stated forensic examinations found no injuries on three journalists who alleged ill-treatment. Another journalist faces charges for a social media post criticising the interior ministry.
