Election Commission Ready To Meet MPs, But Not At Parliament Annexe

The Election Commission stated it was prepared to meet with 240 opposition MPs who requested an audience, but declined their proposed venue at the Parliament House annexe. The EC cited its protocol requiring meetings to be held only on its own premises and through an authorised representative. While the commission offered to send its senior-most officer to receive a memorandum, this was rejected by the MPs. The EC clarified that no formal appointment had been sought by any political party's representative prior to the MPs' march.

चुनाव आयोग ने कहा कि वह 240 विपक्षी सांसदों से मिलने के लिए तैयार है जिन्होंने मिलने का अनुरोध किया था, लेकिन उन्होंने संसद भवन के बाहर मिलने का प्रस्ताव ठुकरा दिया। आयोग ने कहा कि उसके प्रोटोकॉल के अनुसार, मुलाकातें केवल उसके अपने परिसर में और एक अधिकृत प्रतिनिधि के माध्यम से ही हो सकती हैं। आयोग ने एक ज्ञापन प्राप्त करने के लिए अपने सबसे वरिष्ठ अधिकारी को भेजने की पेशकश की, लेकिन सांसदों ने इसे अस्वीकार कर दिया। आयोग ने स्पष्ट किया कि सांसदों के मार्च से पहले किसी भी राजनीतिक दल के प्रतिनिधि द्वारा कोई औपचारिक नियुक्ति नहीं मांगी गई थी।
