Chilean Family's Souvenir Found To Be Older Than Parthenon
Times of India · world
A 2.6-pound marble fragment kept on a Chilean dining room shelf for decades, believed by one family to be from the Parthenon, has been identified by Greek archaeologists as likely originating from the Hekatompedon temple. This older temple on the Acropolis was built around 570 BCE, predating the Parthenon by over a century. The fragment, featuring a carved lotus flower, was originally collected in Athens in the 1930s by an Italian engineer.
