Hundreds Join Durga Idol Immersion Boat Procession On Hansua River

Times of India · interesting

Hundreds of devotees participated in a traditional boat procession on the Hansua river in Rajnagar, Odisha, for the immersion of approximately 20 Durga idols. The decorated boats, carrying idols and devotees, travelled about 6 km along riverside villages. This age-old custom continues despite authorities banning a previous practice of devotees swimming to boats due to saltwater crocodiles in the river. Environmentalists have criticised the immersions, citing pollution from idols and non-biodegradable materials dumped into the water.
