कांग्रेस पार्टी की केरल इकाई ने सीजेआई सूर्यकांत से इस्तीफे की मांग करके राजनीतिक विवाद खड़ा कर दिया है। यह मांग सीजेआई द्वारा यह कहे जाने के बाद आई कि सड़क पर विरोध प्रदर्शनों का प्रबंधन कानून और व्यवस्था के तहत आता है, जो न्यायपालिका के बजाय पुलिस और कार्यपालिका का मामला है। केरल कांग्रेस इकाई ने इसे सीजेआई द्वारा मुद्दों को संबोधित नहीं करने की इच्छा के रूप में व्याख्या की, और उनसे आग्रह किया कि यदि वे उन्हें संभाल नहीं सकते तो इस्तीफा दे दें।
