Tribal Association Protests Megamalai Evictions, Demands Forest Rights Act Implementation

Members of the Tamil Nadu Tribal People’s Association protested at the Coimbatore district collectorate, condemning the eviction of tribal families from Megamalai forest in Theni district. They demanded the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, alleging that communities living on ancestral lands for generations are being branded as encroachers. The association urged the government to stop evictions, provide land pattas, and ensure rehabilitation for displaced families. They also called for safeguarding traditional rights and livelihoods dependent on forest resources.

तमिलनाडु आदिवासी जन సంఘ के सदस्यों ने थेनी जिले के मेघमलाई जंगल से आदिवासी परिवारों को बेदखल करने की निंदा करते हुए कोयंबटूर जिला कलेक्ट्रेट में विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। उन्होंने वन अधिकार अधिनियम, 2006 के कार्यान्वयन की मांग की, यह आरोप लगाते हुए कि पीढ़ियों से पैतृक भूमि पर रहने वाले समुदायों को अतिक्रमणकारी करार दिया जा रहा है। संघ ने सरकार से बेदखली रोकने, भूमि पट्टे प्रदान करने और विस्थापित परिवारों के पुनर्वास को सुनिश्चित करने का आग्रह किया। उन्होंने पारंपरिक अधिकारों और वन संसाधनों पर निर्भर आजीविका की सुरक्षा का भी आह्वान किया।
