Assam Plantation Becomes India's First Matcha Producer

An 83-year-old tea plantation in Tinsukia, Assam, has become the first in India to commercially sell homegrown matcha at auction. The first lot of 5 kg sold for ₹15,000. Named Matcha Assamica, it uses native Camellia assamica and Japanese processing techniques, resulting in a unique, lighter umami profile. This achievement is the culmination of a decades-long collaboration between the Jalan family and Japanese tea growers, Ichiro and Shoji Hara, and expert Masanori Yanagawa.

असम के टिन्सुकिया में एक 83 साल पुरानी चाय बागान भारत की पहली ऐसी जगह बन गई है जहाँ नीलामी में घर में उगाई गई माचा बेची गई है। 5 किलो के पहले लॉट को ₹15,000 मिले। इसका नाम 'माचा असमिका' है, जिसमें स्थानीय कैमेलिया असमिका और जापानी तकनीक का इस्तेमाल हुआ है। यह जापानी चाय उत्पादकों के साथ दशकों की मेहनत का नतीजा है।
